In December the TCPA published the latest in its series of Eco-town Worksheets. The new Eco-towns Energy Worksheet, entitled Developing Energy Efficient and Zero Carbon Strategies for Eco-towns, calls for greater 'carbon awareness' - an understanding throughout the planning and design process of the relationship between development decisions, energy use, and carbon emissions.rnThe Energy Worksheet - the tenth in the series -maintains that eco-towns as a whole must be zero carbon. It aligns with the Government's definition of zero carbon being developed for new homes, which is based on a hierarchical approach to carbon saving through energy efficiency, the use as far as possible of on-site energy generation and connected heat, and then backed up by near- and off-site allowable solutions.
