IPTV Thrives on a Fibre Rich Diet

Currently most Western European customers receive an increasingly inadequate 2-10Mb/s on existing networks, limited by copper distances from the CO. Analysts, meanwhile, predict much higher level demands of 25-50Mb/s for near future service needs. The solution is deeper fibre into the access network to shorten copper loop distances, bringing the high launch speeds of xDSL sources closer to the customer, with up to 50Mb/s+ bandwidth potential. However, this means deployment of xDSL broadband platforms at terminal feeds sited in environmentally harsh, less accessible locations such as cabinets (FTTN), building basements and underground enclosures (FTTC/B). System robustness and reliability are therefore essential.
