Work has started to prepare Ashford International station for the new e320 Eurostar trains, which now form the majority of services between London and both Paris and Brussels. At present, only the handful of services still worked by the older e300 trains are able to call at Ashford, as the international platforms, opened in 1996, were only built with the e300s in mind, and these were built to standard UK rather than European width. Until now the signalling system on the tracks through Ashford station has also only been compatible with conventional UK trains and e300 trains.
