In early March major long distance bus operator FlixBus announced it would be starting regular train services between Hamburg and Koln. The rolling stock to be used is that formerly used by open access operator HKX and the services will be hauled by BTE which has operated HKX services for several years. HKX and BTE are both part of the German subsidiary of US-based Railroad Development Corporation (RDC Deutschland) and RDC will work with FlixBus to operate the new service branded FlixTrain.
