As part ot the EU-funded project to purchase new trams for the Budapest network, the old depot at Budafok (on Lines 17/41/47) was completely demolished in summer 2016 and a new, modern building erected and opened to regular traffic on 12 May. With two access tracks to tram lines instead of the previous one, it is now possible for vehicles to pass through the depot without changing direction. Two tracks have been fitted with lifting equipment and modern washing and painting facilities are also provided. The electricity supply system was also modernised and neighbouring stops rebuilt and made wheelchair accessible. The building of two new traffic lights was also part of the HUF 5.97 billion (€19 million). The new depot is home to recently-purchased CAF and older Tatra trams, all of which operate either on Line 1 or the so-called interlaced network at Buda.
