At one time a major producer of dark tobacco largely used by Seita, Tabacalera and the North African monopolies for dark cigarettes,-Paraguay Zis producing between three and four mn kilos of dark air cured to bacco per year. Kilos are the unit, not bales, which illustrates how the business has changed. Always used in cigars, snuff, chew, and RYO dark air cured tobacco is almost exclusively used in those products now. In the past, Seita has its own operation. Today, Seita does not exist as an independent company and the many company owned leaf dealers such as Meridional and Cacique is Brazil are gone. International leaf dealers are still active in Paraguay in the rnform of CdF and Tabacalera San Fernando, which is part of ULT, operating under the Lancaster Leaf division.
