It is called the "overachiever train" by those who ride it. The passengers on the 6:34 a.m. from Croton, N.Y. arrive at Grand Central Station in New York City by 7:20 a.m. These people are early for work, highly educated and well-paid. Most have some kind of executive job at their companies. Susan Murray had been a passenger on the 6:34 for 12 years. Right out of college, she started riding it with her father to her first ad agency job on Madison Avenue. Then he retired, and she moved into marketing and out of her parents' house. But she stayed in Croton and stayed on the 6:34. She remembered when laptops were used by only a few people. And cell phones were just a curiosity.
