Boy gets horse. Boy loses horse. Boy finds horse. This London import is childlike in the best sense: narratively clear, emotionally naked and entranced with the visual possibilities of theater. Director Diane Paulus' revival of the revered opera-which debuted in Cambridge, Mass., before a Broadway run-is respectful and is deftly staged and beautifully sung by a cast led by Audra McDonald. David Henry Hwang's play about a naive American businessman is rich with laughs, but it's also a probing and nuanced study of the Chinese-American divide.
