According to research by Freedonia, world demand for corrugated boxes is forecast to increase 4.2% per year to 234bn sq m in 2017, due to rising industrial activity particularly in the manufacturing sector, which requires packaging to protect and transport goods. Most of these corrugated cardboard boxes, however, are used commercially only once and generate a huge amount of packaging waste. Businesses today are more conscious than ever about implementing strategies to improve their environmental performance, yet many are resistant to change, despite the considerable benefits they can gain.
