SYNTHESIS AND ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF SOME 2-SUBSTITUTED-4-(5-NITRO-2-THIENYL) THIAZOLES

摘要

The preparation of eighteen new 2-substituted-4-(5-nitro-2-thienyl) thiazoles is described. The structures of these compounds were confirmed by sulphur analysis, IR, NMR and mass spectral data. The compounds have been tested for their antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The results of the screening indicate that the title compounds carrying chloro substituents in the aryl moiety possess better activity against all the organisms tested.
