摘要

Among several methods used to check material endurance in relation to oxidative degradation, oxygen uptake procedure reveals some main advantages. It allows the determination of the induction time, rate and end of degradation process together with their corresponding kinetic parameters: activation energy, frequency factor. This method provides a new way to evaluate oxygen index for different experimental conditions. This paper presents availability of oxygen uptake to correlate different characteristics of thermal degradation to oxygen index. Some examples of experiments on polymers demonstrate that this method is versatile, fast and easy to be applied to any chemical structure, especially for fire retarding evaluation. Stability parameters for material qualification are discussed in connection with the practical purpose of materials.
