On October 21, 1850, Muller-Thurgau was born in Tagerwilen, Switzerland. After studies in Zurich (Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule) and Wurzburg, Germany, as a biologist, he was approinted as head of the department of biology of the former "Royal Institute of Higher Education in Pomology and Viticulture" in the age of 25 years. During his story at Geisenheim he studied all Important areas of the viticulture and made important contributions to the physiology of grapevines (cit. 9,16), diseases (cit.17,18), Grapevine breending (cit. 19) and the understanding of winemaking (cit.9).
