Designing the Future- The Dyson School of Design Innovation

Earlier this year I announced the plans for the Dyson School of Design Innovation due to open in Bath in 2008. The venue for this announcement? One Great George Street, home of the Institute of Civil Engineers. On the oak-panelled walls of the aptly named Brunei and Smeaton rooms, hung portraits of some of our most prestigious ancestors — Isambard Kingdom Brunei, Matthew Boulton, William Jessopp and John Smeaton to name but a few. They illustrate the impact that engineering has made on the world. The problem is, not one of them was born after 1900.
