摘要

This article describes the teaching and learning of structural concepts at the University of Manchester. The work, Seeing and Touching Structural Concepts, has been conducted over a 14-year period. Many physical models and practical examples have been accumulated during this time. There are gaps between theory and practice, but a good understanding of structural concepts and their applications can help to bridge these. Gaining a good understanding of structural concepts has been particularly emphasised in our teaching of structural engineering, through the development of physical models, using appropriate practical examples and involving students in hands-on activities.
