摘要

In the past decade electronic databases that include full-text articles from journals have become widely available and well-used resources in most libraries. Indeed, while access to online articles was not long ago a specialized and expensive service limited to large academic, business, or law libraries, today databases featuring full-text journals are so prevalent in even the smallest school or public library that concerns about duplication of titles have recently been raised. Carol Tenopir, for example, notes that the number of databases listed as sources for periodicals in Fulltext Sources Online has increased from an average of two in 1988 to an average of seven in 2005. One reason for the proliferation of electronic journals is that they are now commonly available not only in large "aggregator" databases of periodicals such as EBSCOhost and ProQuest, but also as components of more specialized databases, such as Literature Resource Center.
