Serials Cancellations in College and Small University Libraries: The National Scene

All types of academic libraries have had to contend with escalating print serials subscription costs for a number of years together with the increasing prevalence of electronic serials. Yet, the literature has described the situation mainly in university and research libraries. How have college and small university libraries coped with this situation, and what actions have they taken? Based on a national survey, this article reveals that college and small university libraries have, in general, adopted a highly rational approach in managing their print serials collections as well as developing hybrid serials collections of print and electronic resources.
