With apologies to Dorothy Parker, I have to say that I found this book very difficult to put down; I had to keep flinging it across the room. The fourth volume of Alastair Campbell's diaries, portentously titled 'The Burden of Power' - but then just in case we miss its significance, subtitled 'Countdown to Iraq' - is another stream of consciousness that takes us from the 9/11 attacks in 2001 to the end of August 2003 when he resigned as Downing Street communications director.
