Since he avoids the two poles of élite wisdom and dualism on the one hand and pervasive influence throughout the Christian communities on the other, he is able in more than a third of his text to identify and describe the writings and practices of those he regards as truly Gnostic (without deducing social rigidity from textual specificity).
