The longevity of digital photography

The letter from John Vaughan (Oct) stating that he will not embrace digital photography surprises me. I went totally digital in 2004 and have never regretted it. He highlights as his reasons the process of archiving and the longevity or otherwise of modern cameras. I agree with him that CDs and DVDs, the main archiving material at present, may not be readable in future decades, but it is more likely that - in the same way as a few manufacturers still supply films - some will continue to supply CD and DVD readers in view of how much professional archiving on disk already exists.
