The caption in the Eastleigh Works souvenir programme (June) remarks on the school uniforms worn by many boys to open days in the 1950s, even at weekends.rnIn the '50s, the school uniform would often be the only decent set of clothes a schoolboy might have and would be worn for all occasions, not just school.rnOther than a school blazer, a spare jacket would be a rarity, as I recall.rnTimes were hard then and money scarce for many, not to mention the rationing that was still in force, even in the early-'50s. It is indeed good to see Royal Scot back in steam, but please, not in I.MS red! We've plenty of locos that can legitimately carry that livery: Leander, Kolhapm; Duchess of Sutherland, the two 'Lizzies', to name a few. Royal Scot wasn't rebuilt with a taper boiler until the early 1950s, so in its present condition, it should carry BR. Brunswick green.
