The West Somerset Railway has carried its four millionth passenger since its Easter 1976 reopening. The Hayward family from Yeovil were greeted by WSR general manager Paul Connibeare on December 6 and presented with complimentary 'Santa Special' tickets, a gift voucher and commemorative certificate. The WSR passed the one million passenger mark in 1989, the two million in 1997 and the three million in 2003. No. 6024 King Edward I, receiving attention to its leading bogie at Williton (RIM Jan), was booked to appear during the WSR's December 28-29 Winter Steam Gala. The 'King' was to join rebuilt 'West Country' No. 34046 Braunton and locos drawn from a pool of S&DJR 7F 2-8-0 No. 88, GWR 2-8-0 No. 3850, Prairie No. 5553 and Mogul No. 9351.
