JOINT EMERGENCY appeals by the West Somerset Railway PLC and its supporting association (WSRA) raised a further £10,000 in the week before Rl closed for press, resulting in the combined total reaching £110,958 on May 11. Donations to the separate WSRA Rail Renewal 2020 appeal, designed to tackle a maintenance backlog, now stands at £19,305. An WSR spokesman said: "Regular WSR visitors are sending donations for the same amount they would have paid to travel, had they been able to ride on the WSR. Also many loyal WSR volunteers are donating money to the appeals that they would normally have spent on fuel travelling to and from the railway, which is remarkable in such difficult times. "One generous volunteer, a supermarket delivery driver, is doing overtime on the days he would have been volunteering and then donating all his overtime wages to the railway."
