Norman Baker (Lewes) asked the Transport Minister of State how many rolling stock vehicles were offered to the Department for Transport where the purchase option was not pursued and the vehicles were subsequently exported.rnSaid Mr Mole: "Although sale of the vehicles is a matter for the rolling stock leasing companies, I am aware that HSBC Rail (UK) Ltd exported 77 Mk 2 vehicles (11 in 2006, 26 in 2007 and 40 in 2008). These vehicles were built by British Rail in the early-1970s, were around 30 years old when taken out of traffic and replaced by new 'Voyager' and 'Pendolino' trains from 2000, and were around 35 years old when offered to the Department.
