UKR main line Christmas lunch specials return with Plain diner

TWO tour promoters are offering Christmas lunch specials this season alongside the usual highend 'Orient Express' and 'Northern Belle'services. UK Railtours is promoting a Salisbury Plain Christmas Lunch on December 16, travelling around the Salisbury Plain and including the former Midland and South Western Railway line, which now forms the seven-mile branch to the Army base at Ludgershall. This route to Cheltenham was closed 50 years ago but the remaining section allows Salisbury Plain to be virtually circumnavigated by this train. The diesel-hauled train runs from Paddington, Slough and Reading, travelling via Andover and Salisbury.
