Greening is new Transport Secretary

THE resignation of Defence Secretary Dr Liam Fox has seen Transport Secretary Philip Hammond take his place in Whitehall. Replacing Mr Hammond is Justine Greening, 42, who has been MP for Putney since 2005. Rotherham-born Greening worked as an accountant before entering Parliament and was previously Economic Secretary at the Treasury. She took over at the DfT on October 14 On the question of whether she would be as enthusiastic a supporter of HS2 as her predecessor, Ms Greening replied:"The way I approach this will not be an emotional one. It will be a rational one, taking note of the many local concerns. "To my mind, when you look at what high-speed rail has bought to other countries it's impossible no1 to see the benefits. It's absolutely right to look at HS2."
