THE sole-surviving Class 28 Co-Bo, No. D5705, was lifted from its bogies on September 24 at the East Lancashire Railway's Baron Street loco works, Bury (RM Nov p90). This followed two months of preparation and used the ELR's Cowans Sheldon 25-ton rail crane and an 80-ton capacity road crane. After lifting clear of the bogies, the body was slewed and lowered on to a pair of loco stands. While the traction motors from the bogies are away for overhaul assessment work will continue on the inside of the body as well as stripping the underframe equipment ready for shotblasting in the new year.
