AT 10.20 on Friday April 8, a diesel multiple unit will depart Wirksworth for Dufifield, marking the resumption of scheduled passenger services on the whole length of Derbyshire's Wirksworth branch for the first time in 63 years, 9 months and 26 days. Also in operation that day will be ex-BR Standard 2-6-0 No. 78019, visiting from the Great Central Railway. It will be a memorable occasion as the 8Vi-mile Ecclesboume Valley Railway takes its place as one of the dozen longest private standard gauge railways in the country.
