City ofTruro helps GCR(N) smash 'Santa'records

The late arrangement of a Christmas visit by the NRM's No. 3717 CityofTruro to the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre was a huge success. Volunteers battling atrocious weather managed to run all scheduled trains and Great Central Railway (Nottingham) 'Santa Special' income was up 22.7 per cent over 2009, itself a record year. Despite the cold and snow, the GCR(N) ran its first ever post-Christmas trains on December 27-28, attracting another 600 passengers. The City of Truro visit was arranged to replace Andrew Goodman's ex-Wemyss Private Railway'Austerity'O-6-OST No. 15 Earl David, which had been due to arrive at Ruddington in time to work over Christmas and provide steam through 2011.
