Duffield line to re-open in April

The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway has confirmed that it will re-open the entire Duffield-Wirksworth line in early April. The Derbyshire line's ten-year restoration project will turn the Wirksworth branch into an operational railway after a 64-year gap, and offer services at weekend and on other operating days between April and October. Looking at becoming a big player in the heritage movement, the EVR has benefitted from 300,000 hours of volunteer effort, ￡600,000 of share capital and ￡900,000 of support from a range of grant-awarding bodies. An initial timetable has been designed to connect with East Midlands Trains' Nottingham-Matlock service at Duffield, thereby opening up connection opportunities not only to other national rail destinations but, via a St Pancras connection, to Paris and Brussels.
