Trawsfynydd branch revival is imminent

Businessman Colin Dale says he expects to secure a lease for the seven-mile branch between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Trawsfynydd from Network Rail and anticipates trains returning to the line by the end of 2011. A lease for the route is expected to be agreed "very soon"with clearance and survey work anticipated to commence in the spring. Mr Dale's plans encompass reviving the disused line to link with boat cruises on Lake Trawsfynydd. The line once connected Trawsfynydd nuclear power station to the national network via Blaenau Ffestiniog (where there is a cross platform exchange with the 2ft gauge Ffestiniog Railway).
