Blue'King'to top bill at SVR & GCR galas

The Great Western Society's GWR 'King' No. 6023 King Edward II is to star at the Severn Valley Railway's September 23-25 Autumn Gala. Also visiting the event will be Tyseley-based'Castle'No. 5029 Nunney Castle and two further guests to be announced. Following the April 2 public launch of King Edward II after a 20-year restoration from'Project Impossible'condition at Didcot (RM Dec), the loco, wearing the BR blue livery carried by Class 8 locos six decades ago, will go to the Mid-Norfolk Railway to undertake 1,000 miles of shakedown running. After returning to Didcot for high summer, it will visit the SVR gala, then move to the Great Central Railway, arriving at Loughborough in time to appear in the GCR's October 6-9 Autumn Gala.
