CLASS 59 DATA

There are three sub-classes of 59. Class 59/0 comprises five locos (Nos. 59001 /2/4/5 and 259003), the first four of which were built in the United States at GM's La Grange, Illinois, plant in 1985 and the latter four years later. The UK-based quartet are owned by Aggregate Industries (a joint operation by Foster Yeoman and ARC) and the Continental-based loco is owned by Heavy Haul Power International. Today, the British-based examples are named respectively Yeoman Endeavour, Alan J. Day, Paul A. Hammond and Kenneth J. Painter. Class 59/1 comprises four locos (Nos. 59101 -104, which are owned by Hanson Quarry Products and named Village of Whatley, Village of Chantry, Village of Mel Is and Village of Great Elm. They were built in 1990, but in Canada rather than the USA, as they are products of GM's London, Ontario, plant.
