Foxclears Kirklees snow

The 15in gauge Kirklees Light Railway's 2-6-2T Fox was more than equal to the 10 to 14 inches of snow that greeted the railway on December 1. Fox was steamed anticipating working'Santa Specials'for schoolchildren but the snowfall prevented them getting to Clayton West. Snow-ploughing duties at Kirklees are normally undertaken by 4wD Jay, but having Fox in steam was too good an opportunity to miss. The 1987-built loco had the adhesion to punch through the biggest drifts and by the time the ploughing team reached Shelley, the banks of snow beside the line were higher than the loco's side tanks.
