The light test run of BR Standard Pacific No. 70000 Britannia took place on November 9 between Crewe, Warrington and Carnforth with a support coach plus a West Coast Class 47 diesel in case of failure. The loaded test run was postponed to December 1 due to a piston gland requiring repacking. This run was cancelled at the last minute after the engine had been in steam at Carnforth following piston gland packing remedial work. It is understood to have been cancelled with the engine returning to Crewe (as booked) in the evening of December 1 to fit an air-braking system, so that the loco will be dual-braked when it finally emerges in the spring.
