Museum Gateway project launched by 24 LBR locos

The Leighton Buzzard Railway launched'The Museum Gateway Project' at its Page's Park terminus on October 30. The biggest project in the line's 91-year history involves reconstruction of the station to provide a fitting gateway to one of the most important working museums (the actual railway itself is an accredited museum) of its kind in the country. Having achieved long-term security at Page's Park, the LBR's revamp includes replacing the life-expired station building with a new, larger structure, incorporating community use facilities, rebuilding the station's second platform and increased car parking. The project was ceremonially launched by lbngrs president Sir William McAlpine and Andrew Selous, MP for South-West Bedfordshire, who drew back a curtain hung from an arch formed by two canopy brackets salvaged in 1989 from Leighton Buzzard's old main line station.These will be incorporated in the new building.
