Old Oak turntable arrives at Swanage

The components of Old Oak Common's Cowans, Sheldon & Co.70ft turntable, installed in 1953 and donated by Network Rail, were delivered to the Swanage Railway on November 3. The RM exclusively revealed the Purbeck Line was negotiating to secure the turntable (July p10), confirming the following month the bid had succeeded. The Swanage Railway has a main line connection, but the 50ft ex-LT Neasden turntable at Swanage installed in the early-1980s (the original turntable was scrapped by BR in 1967) is too short to accommodate main line locos without splitting the tender.
