With a history spanning just 25 years, the Great Central Railway had only two locomotive superintendents - Harry Pollitt (1897-1900) and John G Robinson (1900-1922) - but between them they came up with a surprisingly rich variety of locomotive designs, several of which were still going strong well into the 1950s and, in some cases, sliehtly beyond.
