RAILWAYS AND THE OLYMPICS

The eyes of the world will be on Stratford this summer as the focus of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. A staggering nine billion pounds has been invested to create the 700-acre Olympic Park, its associated infrastructure and a bewildering array of more than 300 shops and restaurants. More than eight million people are predicted to attend the Games and almost 80% are expected to travel by train, but what most of them won't know is that much of the complex is built on former railway land, now virtually unrecognisable from just a few years ago.
