Duke officially opens Aln Valley Railway

The Duke of Northumberland cut a ceremonial ribbon at Alnwick Lionheart to officially open the Aln Valley Railway on October 30, writes Dave Hewitt. The Duke, who is the AVR's president, was joined for the opening by the Rt Hon Sir Alan Beith, MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed. AVR chairman Martin Robinson presented the duke with a replica NER'Lionheart' seat nameplate and Alan Beith a replica 52D shedplate (shed code for Tweedmouth, of which Alnmouth was a sub-shed in steam days), both gifts mounted on wood plaques.
