Dining trains and timetables: the perfect'fantasy' travel

We are lucky in this country to enjoy such a high level of interest in railways, both ancient and modern. This is best exhibited by the extraordinary number of television programmes devoted to the subject, whether it be Michael Portillo retracing the footsteps - or should I say train journeys - of our ancestors with the help of Bradshaw's Guide, or the Hairy Bikers restoring a 'Night Owl'on the Llangollen Railway on BBC2. The joy of steam trains is enhanced by the fact that you not only can see and hear them, but can smell them and, as one of the Hairy Bikers put it, taste them - in his case, breakfast off a shovel!
