The James Bond coaching set has lost its Bond vinyls, which were removed during May. Prior to this, the set attracted much attention from our correspondents keen to see it, including a report from May 9 when it was noted leaving Newcastle on the 09.53 departure for Edinburgh. THE southbound 07.55 Inverness-London King's Cross 'Highland Chieftain'service failed on Slochd summit on May 15 with a defective leading power car, No. 43316. Despite several attempts by the on-train crew, the set was declared a complete failure and had to return to Inverness where the service was cancelled. Coach transport was quickly and efficiently arranged to convey the passengers south to Edinburgh.
