Great Western 2884 class No. 2885, which has been on display in the centre of Britain's second largest city for a decade, was lifted out and taken away on the night of June 2. The Swindon-built 2-8-0 was removed from its location at Birmingham Moor Street station and transferred to Birmingham Locomotive Works at Tyseley. The west London-based GWR Preservation Group had agreed a sale of the loco more than a year ago, to be concluded when No. 2885 was extricated -an operation that has taken a lot longer to complete than expected.
