Since March 16, Japanese high-speed operator JR-East has been running its new E5 series high-speed trains at 320km/h (200mph)on the Tohoku Shinkansen. The feat has been achieved over the 387.5km section between Utsunomiya and Morioka, which runs north from Tokyo to the northern end of Japan's main Honshu island. This means that Japan has joined France, Germany and Spain in operating regular trains at up to 320km/h(200mph).
