Contractors sought for £600m Northern Line extension

London Underground is inviting bids for the construction of the £600million Northern Line extension project in south London. Work could get underway in January 2014, with completion by 2020. The extension will see a two-mile (3.3km) branch built from Kennington to serve stations at Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station. There are plans to help regenerate the area, where up to 16,000 new homes could be built over the next 20 years.
