Earth slip hits Spa Valley Railway

The Spa Valley Railway became the latest heritage railway victim of an embankment slip following land movement on November 9. The incident occurred close to the railway's Tunbridge Wells West station following a prolonged period of heavy rain. The slip covers an area of more than 100ft and requires substantial repairs before any trains can operate over the adjacent line. Following assessment by civil engineers, it has been agreed that the running line will be slewed onto land currently used as sidings, which will allow trains during the Santa season to operate on the alternate line. Until the. repairs are completed in 2013, this will give 'rare track' opportunities, including the first use of the A26 Eridge Road bridge southern span for passenger services since 1985.
