September gala breaks Perrygrove crowd record

The Perrygrove Railway's September 20-21 gala featured eight locomotives. The event set a new visitor figure record for the line; the first day attracted just fewer than 60 short of the previous weekend total. Three were visitors: Exmoor Steam Railway-built 0-4-0TT St. Egwin, Ruston & Hornsby diesel No. 452280 Cromwell (both from the Evesham Vale Light Railway), and Jamie Page's Baldwin 0-4-0 tender loco Soony. The home fleet comprised 0-4-0+0-4-0 Garratt Tasmania, 2-6-2T Lydia, Hunslet 9337/1994 Jubilee, and Lister 40407/1954 Pylon, with Simplex MR26014/1963 Workhorse as yard shunter at Perrygrove station. Perryg rove's 0-4-2T Spirit of Adventure had not returned to service following overhaul. Freights were interspersed with passenger trains, Soony worked shuttles to Rookwood, and a traction engine provided trailer rides around the Hay Field. The event crowned what is already a record year for the 15in-gauge line.
