RM-backed Derby depot open day raises £20,000

The open day at Derby Etches Park depot, officially supported by The Railway Magazine, has raised £20,000 for the Railway Children charity. The event on September 13 attracted more than 3,000 visitors to the depot, which was being opened for the first time to mark 175 years of railways in the Midlands city. Mark Coney, head of fleet delivery for East MidlandsTrains, said: "The day was a resounding success and we were really pleased with the huge number of people who came along. It's great to see such a level of interest and enthusiasm in our railway." Presentation of the cheque was made at a gala dinner in Derby's former Midland Railway roundhouse on October 9.
