Major Swedish operator sold to equity fund

Hector Rail has been sold by its founders to Swedish private equity fund EQT Infrastructure Ⅱ. The original private Norwegian owners and some staff will still retain a small stake. Hector Rail was founded in 2004 and is one of the biggest private freight operators in Scandinavia. It is based in Stockholm. The company operates in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany and has some 50 main line locos (both diesel and electric), plus 10 shunting locos and around 190 employees. While Hector Rail is mostly a freight operator, it also provides'Taurus'electric locos (Siemens ES64U2) for open access passenger trains operated between Stockholm and Malmo by Veolia.
