The bridge carrying the Knighton Junction to Coalville freight line over Narborough Road in Leicester is to get a new look, costing £340,000. The bridge is being prepared for a repaint in a project that started on September 22 and will take two months to complete. Road closures and other restrictions will be necessary on the busy road that connects the city with the M1 motorway. A competition for the new look for the bridge was run by Network Rail and Leicester City Council in conjunction with De Montfort University. It was won by second-year student Kieran Scott-Everett, who beat more than 40 other entrants. His design features legs and shoes, and was inspired by the city's historic links with hosiery and shoemaking, although critics of the scheme say that is not immediately apparent.
