I Congratulate Bombardier upon winning the Crossrail order, but what I don't understand is why Derby Works is so dependent upon domestic orders. In the past, BRCW, Metro-Cammell and suchlike had large export order books. Is it Bombardier's policy to restrict the work undertaken at Derby, making it vulnerable, or is the British plant not efficient enough to compete with Bombardier's continental establishments? I have asked the firm this but had no reply.
